I went to my first Women Who Code event tonight. It was amazing. It is always wonderful to be surrounded by doers.
It felt like a wonderful community, very diverse in skill level, experience and interest. I enjoyed my time thoroughly.
Laima, from Refinery 29, introduced me to Redux, hot loading, Webpacks and a different way to think about React components.
Erin and Angeline, two of the organizers, were very friendly and encouraging. That counts.
One of the presenters said that part of the reason that women don't stay in tech is psychological. Having a community to turn to helps. A lot.
This year privately and professionally, community is a priority. It will be a focus- deep and deliberate - to be somewhere, that matters.
